A noted leader, public servant, former Texas A&M University System Regent, and vocalist, Frederick D. McClure received his Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University in 1976, graduating summa cum laude. While at Texas A&M, he served as student body president, was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, and received the Brown-Rudder Outstanding Student Award.
Mr. McClure is the managing partner of the Washington, DC office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP. He has a national reputation for excellence, extensive legislative experience with Congress, and broad advocacy experience with the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government. National media organizations regularly seek him for insight on public policy and politics.
Among his many career highlights, Mr. McClure has served as Assistant for Legislative Affairs to President George H. W. Bush (1989 – 92), as Special Assistant for Legislative Affairs to President Ronald Reagan (1985 – 86), and as Associate Deputy U.S. Attorney General (1984 – 85).
In 1994, then Governor-elect George W. Bush appointed Mr. McClure to the State of Texas Inaugural Committee, and in 1995 to a six-year term on the Board of Regents of the A&M System, where he served two years as vice chairman. In 2001, he was a member of Transition Committees for Bush-Cheney and for Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Mr. McClure is the former managing shareholder of Winstead Sechrest & Minick’s Washington, D.C. office. He also previously served for more than five years as managing director of Public Strategies, Inc., and as a former Government Affairs Staff Vice President of Texas Air Corporation. He also served as a managing director of First Southwest Company, a financial advisory and investment banking firm. His other U.S. government service includes Legislative Director to U.S. Senator John Tower of Texas, Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the United States Naval Academy, and a member of the National Civil Aviation Review Commission.
In 1991, Mr. McClure’s alma mater, Texas A&M University, honored him as its 115th Distinguished Alumnus. Also in 1991, Baylor University, his law school alma mater, named him an Outstanding Young Alumnus. A bipartisan group of Texas Governors has appointed Mr. McClure to four public service positions.
Fred McClure is a member of the Board of Directors of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, and the Board of Directors of Alex Lee, Inc., a North Carolina-based food retailer and distributor. In 2006, he completed a term as a member of the Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board, and in February 2002, he completed four years as Chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association.
Mr. McClure and his wife, Harriet, reside in Falls Church, Virginia. They have two children, Lauren and Frederick, Jr.
