Julian C. Gomez

Biography:

Julian C. Gomez was raised in South Texas. His family has been ranching in and around Jim Hogg County since 1740 and, ten generations later, the ranch continues today. Julian attended McAllen Memorial High School, where he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America (serving as an officer), the track team, and the cross-country team.

Julian earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in Agricultural Economics. While at A&M, he was an active member of the Corps of Cadets, a passionate participant in The Fighting Texas Aggie Bonfire, and worked as a welder. Immediately following his graduation in December 1996, Julian moved to Chicago and worked as an analyst in the cattle futures and options pits on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for Iowa Grain. Julian lost a bet to his father and had to attend law school. He moved to Houston and earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in May 2000.

After law school, Julian worked two one-year-long federal judicial clerkships. The first clerkship was as a law clerk for Reynaldo Garza, United States Circuit Court Judge, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, New Orleans, Louisiana. He was then a law clerk for Filemon Vela, United States District Judge, Southern District of Texas, Brownsville Division. Immediately following his clerkships, Julian founded The Julian C. Gomez Law Firm, PLLC in McAllen and he continues to practice there today. Julian has a national practice that focuses on catastrophic personal injury and product liability cases, mass torts, and contingent commercial litigation.

Julian is the Past Chair of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America)’s Products Liability Section, the largest professional organization of plaintiff product liability attorneys in the United States, and is a member of its Executive Committee. He is the current First-Vice Chair of the American Association for Justice’s Legal Technology and Science Section. Julian is immediate Past Vice President of Continuing Legal Education for the Texas Trial Lawyers and is a member of its Executive Committee. He is Chair of the Attorneys Information Exchange Group, the largest professional organization of plaintiff automotive product liability attorneys in the United States’, Legal Technology Committee, the Immediate Past-Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee, and a member of its Board of Directors. Julian is a graduate of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer’s College and the American Association for Justice’s Leadership Academy and is one of the most prolific continuing legal education speakers in the United States with nearly 100 published articles and presentations.

Outside of his law practice, Julian is a competitive weightlifter and was the 2017 Men’s 40-44, -69k Texas Weightlifting Champion. He also excels in other aspects of athletic competition with a marathon time of 3 hours and 45 minutes. Mr. Gomez is a member of the Governor of Texas’s Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Task Force, a former U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, is on the Board of Directors of the USA Weightlifting Foundation (the foundation for United States’ Olympic weightlifting athletes), a former Board of Director of McAllen Educational Foundation for the McAllen Independent School District, and on the Board of Directors of the Texas International Fishing Tournament (the largest fishing tournament in the State of Texas).

Julian is an AGEC 425 Survivor, is a perennial mentor of agribusiness entrepreneurship students at Texas A&M University, and a financial supporter of Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics students. He is an active and ardent supporter of Texas A&M, including the newly-developing Agricultural Economics degree program at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center – McAllen. Julian is a member of the Texas A&M AgriLife Inclusive Excellence Advisory Board, is a member of The Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association, and the father of current Aggie Averri R. Gomez ’24.

Julian lives in McAllen. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family—wife Danielle, daughter Averri, and son Devin. Julian is an avid fitness athlete, rancher, photographer, snow skier, and tarpon flyfishing angler.
