Bamert, Nick

Nick Bamert ’81 was raised on his family farm near Muleshoe in Bailey County, Texas.  He graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1977.  In high school, he served as an officer in his school’s FFA chapter and as a class officer.  He was also active in showing cattle.

Bamert attended Texas A&M University and graduated with his B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1981.  While on campus, he was the Vice President of the Agricultural Economics Club and was a Yellow Pot during Bonfire.  Throughout his time at Texas A&M, he was influenced heavily by his advisor, Judon Fambrough, and Kerry Litzenberg.  These faculty members continued mentoring Nick for 25 years following his graduation (while pheasant hunting!).  His professor Ron Knutson also left an impact on Nick through his Ag Policy class.

Following graduation, Bamert returned to the seed farm that his father, Carl, started in 1951.  Bamert Seed Co. currently produces more than 75 selections of native grasses and wildflowers.  The company also provides more than 400 species destined for reclamation and revegetation projects, such as mining, oil and gas, right-of-way projects, wildlife habitat, and biofuel programs throughout the U.S. and internationally.  Bamert Seed Co. received Farm Family of the Year in Bailey County in 1987.  In 2017, Bamert Seed Co. was named Business of the Year in Muleshoe, Texas.

Nick has been President of the Texas Seed Trade Association and the Southern Seed Association.  He also has served on several state and national committees for natural resources and conservation.  He is an alumni of the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership (TALL) IV program, which prepares young leaders for the challenges facing agriculture in the future.  He is currently advising on the White Creek Restoration portion of The Gardens project on campus at TAMU.  Nick and his wife, Rayniel, have supported the College of Agriculture at TAMU by establishing funding for a professorship in Range Science to further research in the development of new selections for native species.  They are long-standing members of the College of Agriculture Development Council, the Texas A&M Foundation, the Texas A&M Legacy Club, the TALL Alumni Association, and the 12^th Man Foundation.  Nick has always been inquisitive and enjoys encouraging others to continue to elevate their professional and personal lives.

In his community, Nick served on the Muleshoe ISD Board of Trustees for 14 years, is a former member of Kiwanis, a service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children, and he is also a former member of Rotary, another service organization whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide service and promote goodwill.  He has served on the Bailey County Livestock Board for several years.  He is a member of the Muleshoe Athletic Boosters.  He is also very active in the First Baptist Church of Muleshoe.

Nick enjoys spending time with his family.  He and Rayniel have two sons, Brett ’10 and Austin ’14, two daughter-in-laws, Madison ’11 and Avery ’14, and two granddaughters, Brookelyn ’39 and Willow ’40.  Brett and Austin have both returned to the family farm near Muleshoe, TX to help with the growth of Bamert Seed Co.  Nick also enjoys hunting and watching the Aggies win during his free time.
