Biography
Jennifer Bohac grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended Bellaire High School, graduating in 1983 with honors. During high school, Jennifer was a part of the Bellaire Belles Drill Team, including Vice-President her senior year. She was also very involved in the Bellaire FFA Chapter, serving as an officer for three years, including President her senior year. She raised and showed steers throughout high school, was part of numerous judging teams, and earned her Lone Star Farmer Degree. In addition, Bohac won numerous awards during high school, including Senior Superlative and Outstanding Junior.
Bohac graduated from Texas A&M University in 1987 with her B.S. in Animal Science and received her B.S. in Agricultural Economics one year later. She also completed her master’s and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M in 1994 and 1998. During that time, Dr. Bohac worked full-time on campus. During 1990-1994, she was an Academic Counselor in the Agricultural Economics Department and was one of the advisors for the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Association club, which placed first in the nation as Outstanding Chapter of the Year 1992-1993. During this time, she also served as a judge for
numerous 4-H, County, and local contests. In 1995, she accepted a position at Texas A&M University to develop and direct the Athletic Career Services Program. Here, she was in charge of student-athletes’ summer employment, their jobs upon graduation, and NCAA employment compliance. She also was the faculty advisor for Squadron One of the Corps of Cadets during 1994-1999, and she received the Corps Advisor of the Year Award in 1995.
After receiving her Ph.D. in 1998, Dr. Bohac continued to work with the Athletic Career Services Program at Texas A&M until 1999. She next spent two years (1999-2001) at the University of Minnesota as the Director of Student-Athlete Development. While there, she oversaw more than 700 student-athletes’ community service, career development, leadership programming, and personal development. During this time, she authored a textbook with Prentice Hall publishers in 2000 titled Career Game Plan for Student Athletes.
Dr. Bohac joined the staff of The Association of Former Students at Texas A&M in May 2001 as the Director of Travel, a position in which she continues today. The travel program is offered to all seven continents. She has developed the program from 10-12 trips annually to more than 80 trips per year. She has substantially grown the revenue of the program and achieved a record 1,468 travelers in 2018. Dr. Bohac has personally visited 88 countries and hosted more than 245 trips during her time with Traveling Aggies. In 2018, she traveled more than 200,000 miles and was on the road for more than 233 days while hosting 16 trips with 424 traveling Aggies.
In 2018, Jennifer was honored with the Selfless Service Award from Texas A&M President Michael and Mrs. Marti Young. Dr. Bohac also speaks and presents at International and Regional Travel Conferences and meetings about travel and travel programs. Jennifer has mentored and assisted several other university travel programs in growing and developing their alumni travel departments. She now serves on the Executive Advisory Board for the National Educational Travel Community and the Oceania
Cruises Advisory Council.
Dr. Bohac is involved in her local community through various activities, including the Past Presidents of the Brazos County A&M Club, the College Station Noon Lions, the Bryan/College Station Jaycees, and the University Advisors and Counselors. She is a Leadership Brazos Alumni and a former American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Woman of the Year (1994). She was also on the Advisory Board for the Division IA Athletic Directors Association for four years (1997-2000), and she was on the 2001 NCAA
Final Four Committee. In addition, Jennifer annually speaks at Aggie Musters across the state, nation, and world.
Jennifer has a passion for helping others during her international travels. During the past ten plus years, while bringing groups to Tanzania East Africa, Jennifer and the Traveling Aggies have been supporting Zariki Primary School (grades K-12) at Lake Victoria, Tanzania. Each year, Dr. Bohac’s groups bring and provide 600 pounds of donations to the children and villages. Jennifer has organized these contributions to make sure well-deserving people have access to the much-needed donations. The group has provided laptops, iPads, and other needed supplies to the schools and people of East Africa.
Dr. Bohac was recently surprised and honored by her Traveling Aggies travelers with the “The Dr. Jennifer L. Bohac ’87 Endowed Excellence Award.” The award is channeled through the Bush School of Government and Public Service and the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs. The endowment supports international travel and international study experiences for deserving Bush School
students, and Dr. Bohac assists in the selection process.
During Jennifer’s rare free time at home in College Station, she continues to enjoy community involvement, Chamber of Commerce and A&M Club activities, Aggie Sports, and her book club and bunco groups.
