Biography:
Justin Bierschwale graduated from Texas A&M University in December of 2002 with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics (AGEC), focusing his studies in Farm and Ranch Management. He next obtained a Master’s Degree in Land Economics and Real Estate (LERE) from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M, graduating in May 2004. While attending Texas A&M, Justin worked with the Texas Real Estate Research Center on campus helping to research, prepare, and track real estate markets throughout the State of Texas. While there, he formed lasting relationships and to this day, he has a strong working relationship with the Real Estate Center.
In 2000, Justin began working with JMP Land Services, LLC in College Station as a student-worker. This position turned into a full-time job as a Real Estate Appraiser and Right-of-Way acquisition agent, where he was responsible for performing appraisal reports on commercial, rural, industrial, and residential properties. In 2007, Justin made the decision to move his family back to his hometown of Junction, TX to work with his father, Paul Bierschwale and brother, Aaron, at Bierschwale Appraisals. In 2010, Justin and Aaron partnered with their father to create Bierschwale Land Company, LLC, a full service appraisal, brokerage, and consulting firm. Justin is currently a part owner and Real Estate Appraiser with the company. Through the years, the company has provided valuations, consulting, and litigation support in conjunction with private purchases, loans, estates, conservation easements, partitions, lake acquisitions, and right-of-way acquisitions. The company also addresses financial planning, fee simple, easement, and partial interest situations and a myriad of other potential questions relating to real property. Justin has experience in appraisal work in all of these areas, with specialization in natural resources.
Justin has served on many levels of committees within the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA), including the Governance Committee, Auction Committee, Program Committee, and the Cooperative Efforts Task Force charged with looking at relationships with other organizations, most notably the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He is currently serving as the chairman for the National Education and Accreditation Committee for ASFMRA. Justin received his Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation at the ASFMRA National Convention in 2008. Justin also serves as Secretary for the Austin Chapter of the Appraisal Institute in which he holds a Member Appraisal Institute (MAI) designation.
Justin is a coauthor of ASFMRA’s “Wind Powered Generators and their Impact on Land Ownership” seminar. He is the sole author of the updated 2011 version of the “Appraisal of Natural Resources” seminar. Justin has also been an active member with the RICS, Americas division, where he is participating in the writing of a global text book project centering on rural property and natural resources.
Justin is actively involved with both the AGEC and LERE programs. Following graduation from the LERE program, Justin led the pursuit to have the program’s course work approved through the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB), making Texas A&M one of only a handful of universities that can make this claim. Together with his wife, Carmen, a 2002 Agricultural Economics graduate, the couple are “Professors-for-a-Day,” program sponsors, and mentors for Rural Entrepreneurship students in the Department of Agricultural Economics.
Justin is an active member of his local community. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Junction where he has served as an Elder on the Session. He is a past board member of the Junction Economic Development Board and past president of the Junction A&M Club. Currently, Justin serves as a board member of the Hill Country Fair Association. Justin loves coaching his daughter’s softball team and sons’ Tee Ball teams. Justin and Carmen live near Segovia, south of Junction, and have three children — Jade, Brock and Koda.
